Where found

Woodland on steep slopes and in rocky areas. Ranges and eastern edge of the tablelands north from west of Bodalla to west of Nowra.

Notes

Tree or mallee to 15 m tall.  Bark smooth throughout, with scribbles, shedding in ribbons.  The largest trees with a stocking of compacted rough bark at the base of the trunk, dark grey to brown.  Juvenile stems rounded in cross section, very warty on the lower stems.  Juvenile leaves 4-11 cm long, 15-40 mm wide, opposite each other for about 3-5 pairs, then alternating up the stems, glossy, green, upper and lower surfaces different colours.  Adult leaves alternating up the stems, 7-16 long, 8-30 mm wide, glossy, green.  Flowers white, with 0 petals.  Flower clusters 3-flowered, occasionally 7-flowered.  Mature flower buds 5–8 mm long, caps shorter than the base.  Flowers Summer-Autumn.  Gumnuts 7-12 mm in diameter.  Gumnuts that have dropped their seed have protruding valves or valves that are not very noticeable.

Hybridises with Eucalytus burgessiana in the ranges north from Jervis Bay.
