Where found

Rainforest, stream margins, and swamps. Widespread. Few records.

Notes

Perennial herb to 0.5 m high or sprawling. Stoloniferous. Basal leaves soon withering. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, 1.5–8 cm long, 1–10 mm wide, upper surface hairless, lower surface with a dense white tomentum, bases shortly auriculate. Bracts appressed to the individual flower heads pale to dark brown, sometimes with a reddish-purple band below the straw-coloured tips. Outer florets purple, inner florets purple or colourless. Flower heads 3–4 mm long, 1–2 mm in diameter, bell-shaped or cup-shaped, in a dense globular cluster 5–15 mm in diameter of 6 to numerous flower heads, surrounded by about 3–8 leaves, the longest 5–42 mm long. Flower cluster at the top of the stem, often with smaller clusters at the bases of the leaves below. Flowers throughout the year.
