Where found

Herbfields, rock crevices, and shaded cliff faces. Kosciuszko National Park.

Notes

Perennial herb to 0.15 m high, stoloniferous, sometimes mat-forming. Stems woolly. Basal leaves in a rosette, 1–6 cm long, 5–18 mm wide, upper surface grey with appressed white hairs or green and almost hairless, lower surface with a white-tomentum, blades with long expanded stalks. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, similar but smaller. Outer florets purple, inner florets purple or colourless. Flower heads 1.5–2.5 mm in diameter, about 4.5 mm long, in a dense globular cluster of about 7 flower heads, surrounded by several conspicuous leafy bracts. Flower heads at the tops of the stems. Smaller clusters occasionally at the base of the upper leaves. Flowering: Dec.–Mar.
