Forest, woodland, shrubland, grassy areas, and moist places. Coast and ranges. Occasionally elsewhere.
Twining or trailing perennial herb. Stems with fawn or golden-brown hairs. Leaves alternating along the stems, compound, with 3 leaflets, each 1-6.5 cm long, 4-35 mm wide, tips blunt to rounded or notched; surfaces velvety to tomentose or bristly, with fawn or golden-brown hairs. Standard petal 5-10 mm long. Flowers pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, pink to reddish purple, in clusters of 7-15 flowers. Flowers Spring to Autumn.
