Shrubland and rocky areas. Tablelands north from Bungonia. Coast and ranges north of Wollongong.
Shrub to 1 m high. Stems 4-angled; densely hairy with soft, spreading hairs. Leaves opposite each other or in whorls of 3, alternating up the stems throughout or almost opposite each other above, mostly 1.2–2.5 cm long, 3–6 mm wide, covered with spreading hairs, margins thickened, and with 12–30 small teeth. Flowers with 4 greenish hooded petals each 1.6–2.2 mm long, and 8 stamens. Flowers in spike-like clusters. Seed cases oval, about 1 mm long, silver-grey to reddish, 8-ribbed, with warts or 2 or 3 hard protuberances between the ribs. (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see).
