Swampy places on sandstone. Coast and ranges, north from the Sydney area and Blue Mountains.
Herb to 0.5 m high. Stems hairless. Leaves mostly basal, a few alternating up the stems, 1–5 cm long, 2–11 mm wide, thick, margins entire or slightly toothed. Flowers yellow, 12–15 mm long, tubular, the tube split to the base, with 5 lobes, 2-lipped. Flowers in branched clusters on almost leafless stalks. Flowering: chiefly October–March. Seeds elliptic, about 1.5 mm long, dark brown, glossy.
var. angustifolia: Basal leaves very narrow.
var. dimorpha: Basal leaves with the length 1–3 times the breadth, broader above the midde.
