Dry forest, wet heath, rocky areas, swamps and seepages. Coast, ranges, and Southern Highlands, between Moss Vale and Budawang National Park, and east to Jervis Bay.
Herb to 0.5 m high, woody at the base, yellowish to grey-hairy when young. Leaves mostly towards the base, mostly 6–20 cm long, 10–22 mm wide, margins toothed to lobed. Flowers yellow, 20–30 mm long, tubular, the tube split to the base, with 5 lobes, 2-lipped. Flowers almost stalkless, in clusters to 12 cm long on almost leafless scapes. Flowering: chiefly October–January. Seeds elliptic to round, about 1.5 mm long, brown.
