subsp. acanthifolia:  Wet places. Ranges north of Wollongong. 

subsp. paludosa:  Densely vegetated low hummocks in swamps. Bega Swamp north of Bemboka. SE Forests National Park south east of Bombala.

Notes

Shrub to 3 m high. Leaf segments sharp tipped. Branchlets ridged. Leaves alternating up the stems, 4–9 cm long, 30–70 mm wide, deeply dissected, the lobes often dissected again, margins curved down or abruptly bent down, lower surface hairless to silky. Flowers with 4 pale green to grey 'petals' joined together in pairs, hairy outside, hairless inside. Gynoecium 20–28 mm long, style pink to maroon, with a green to yellowish tip. Flower clusters one-sided tooth-brushes, 3–10 cm long. Flowering: mainly October–February.

In the absence of specific information, seeds of all species of Grevillea have been keyed as having one wing.

subsp. acanthifolia:  Shrub to 2 m high. Leaves with broad, rarely narrow, ultimate lobes, most of the lower surface exposed, margins curved down. Flower clusters usually more than 5 cm long.

Hybridizes with Grevillea laurifolia to produce natural hybrids known as Grevillea x gaudichaudii, where the ranges overlap (e.g. Wentworth Falls to Hartley Vale).

subsp. paludosa:  Erect to spreading shrub to 3 m high. Leaves usually with very narrow ultimate lobes with most of the lower surface enclosed by the bent-back margin. Flower clusters usually up to 5 cm long

(subsp. paludosa):  Endangered Australia. Endangered NSW. Provisions of the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 No 63 relating to the protection of protected plants generally also apply to plants that are a threatened species.
