Wet forest and wet gullies. Coast and ranges north from west of Ulladulla.
Perennial herb or shrub to about 2 m tall. Fleshy ‘petals‘ and fruit. Leaves alternating up the stems, usually 100–150 cm long, mostly 10–25 mm wide, tough-fibrous, hairless, strongly veined, channelled, tapering to a point. Individual flowers small, with 4 fleshy 'petals'. Pollen bright yellow. Main axis of the inflorescence 1.5-3 m high. Individual flower spikes to about 120 mm long, at first with the flowers green and clustered, the flowers later darkening and becoming separated from each other. Flowers emerge over a long period of time. Fruit blue to blue-black. Flowering: throughout the year.
