Perennial herb. Stems trailing, to 1 m long or more, sparsely covered with small retrorse prickle-like bristles. 'Seeds' 2–3.5 mm long, outer face densely prickly, sticking to clothing. Leaves alternating along the stems, 2–8 cm long, 10–60 mm wide, upper surface more or less densely hairy, lower surface with hairs restricted to the veins, tips mucronate, margins often wavy with small prickle-like bristles. Flowers white, pale blue, or pale mauve, funnel-shaped, usually with 5 lobes, 2-5 mm long, usually single. Flowering: October–May.
