Dry forest. Coast and ranges north from Thirlmere.
Shrub to 1 m high. Leaf tips sharp. Young stems sparsely hairy. Leaves alternating up the stems, mostly 5–7 cm long, 1–1.5 mm in diameter, cylindrical, more or less hairless; mucro 0.7-1 mm long. Flowers with 4 pink to crimson 'petals' 10–15 mm long, remaining fused and splitting on the upper side only, hairless. Gynoecium about 40 mm long. Unit clusters of 6–12 flowers, often several clusters close together. Flowering: late autumn to winter. 'Nuts' approximately oval, 50–70 mm long, 30–40 mm wide, wrinkled, rough but without distinct warts, shortly beaked. Seeds with one wing.
