Dry forest, woodland, and grassy areas. Coast, ranges, tablelands, and Western Slopes, east from Wagga Wagga and the Olympic Highway, and north from the Tumut and Nowra districts.
Shrub or perennial herb to 0.6 m high, with a stoloniferous rootstock. Stems 4 ribbed, rough with curved hairs along the ribs. Leaves opposite each other, mostly 2.5–4.5 cm long, 6–8 mm wide, margins toothed with 10–30 small teeth, hairless, or rough on the margins and midrib. Flowers with 4 yellow to green petals 2.4–2.9 mm long, and 2 styles, in clusters of 1–3 flowers. Seed cases oblong to oval, 2–3 mm long, weakly ribbed, more or less wrinkled in the lower part (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see).
