Wet heath, grassland, herbfields, and swampy places, at high altitude. Kosciuszko National Park and the Western Slopes south of Tumut.
Perennial herb forming mats to 2 m or more in diameter, rhizomes wiry, creeping. Leaves in clusters of about 5 arising from the rhizome, 2-11 cm long, 1.5–4 mm wide, somewhat fleshy, stiff, longitudinally folded, sheathing at the base, surfaces somewhat glaucous. Flowers with 6 white, or pale blue or lilac 'petals' each about 10-20 mm long. Flowers single, almost stalkless. Flowering: December–February.
