Shrub to 1.1 m high. Stems bluntly ridged to flanged from the continuation down the stems of the leaf bases, hairy with stellate hairs (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see). Stalked stellate hairs absent. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.46–2.23 cm long, 1.6–5.4 mm wide, upper surface becoming warty, margins entire and rolled down, lower surface visible, hairy with stellate hairs. Juvenile leaves larger, otherwise similar to adult leaves. Flowers with 5 yellow petals each 7.4–10.2 mm long. Stamens 9−13 (plus a few stamens not producing pollen), surrounding the carpels. Carpels 2, hairy. Bracts below the flowers 7.8-10.4 mm long, usually longer than the outer calyx. Flowers single at the tops of the stems, stalkless or almost so. Flowering: usually October−April.
