Open forest, woodland, and rocky sites. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands.
Shrub to 0.3 m high, sprawling to prostrate, often forming mats to 50 cm diameter. Stems usually hairless, sometimes hairy with simple short hairs. Leaves alternating along the stems, 0.4–3 cm long, 3–14 mm wide, hairless, occasionally hairy with short hairs, tips rounded to more or less notched, occasionally pointed, margins usually toothed or lobed. Flowers with 5 yellow petals each 5.2–10.4 mm long. Stamens 20–25, in groups around the carpels. Carpels 2-3, hairless. Sepals hairless. Flowers single, mainly at the ends of the stems, sometimes on short shoots, stalkless. Flowering: spring to autumn.
