Rainforest and moist open forest, usually growing among rushes and sedges or on mossy rocks along streams. Coast, ranges, and tablelands. Uncommon.
Perennial sprawling herb, hairless or becoming hairless. Stems rooting at the lower nodes, hairless or sparsely hairy. Leaves arising from the nodes, single or in clusters, 10–50 mm in diameter, kidney shaped, or round with cordate bases, margins scalloped, often with 3–11 very shallow broad lobes. Flowers small, with 5 petals, each about 0.75 mm long, off-white with purple blotches. Flower clusters globular, 2–3 mm in diameter, with about 5–20 flowers. Flowers spring–early autumn.
