Urban bushland, woodland, grassy areas, near old habitations, roadsides, wasteland, and moist sites. Tablelands. Occasionally elsewhere. Doubtfully naturalised in the ACT.
Introduced evergreen perennial herb to 1.2 m high. Clump-forming. Fleshy rhizomes at the soil surface 3–5 cm diameter. Leaves in fan-shaped clusters at the base of the plant, 30–50 cm long, 25–40 mm wide, sword shaped, glaucous, tips pointed. Flowers white, blue, violet, yellow or multicoloured, funnel-shaped, the tube about 20 mm long, with 6 'petals' 60–80 mm long, outer 'petals curved down, inner 'petals' erect or curved upwards. Flowers in two to four condensed 2–5-flowered clusters. Flowering: September–October
