Small creeping shrub or perennial herb to about 0.05 m high, forming tufts or patches to 30 cm diameter; often much branched and intertwined. Stems slightly fleshy. Branchlets with prominent leaf scars towards the base, sometimes reddish. Leaves alternating along the stems, overlapping each other, 0.15-0.4 cm long, 0.2-1 mm wide, stiff, margins fringed, a conspicuous tuft of white hairs at the tips, becoming hairless with age. Flowers unisexual or bisexual. Flowers about 1.5 mm long, 3 mm in diameter, tubular, with 4 white petal-like sepals. Flowers in 1–5-flowered clusters.
