Forest and heath. Coast and ranges, rarely elsewhere.
Shrub to 2 m high. Stems hairy. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 0.4–2 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, tips blunt, margins strongly rolled down, upper surface hairless to hairy or rarely rough with minute projections, lower surface hairy or coarsely stellate hairy (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see). Flowers with 5 petals each 4–7 mm long, creamy yellow, often pale red outside towards the tips, sparsely glandular. Flowers in compact heads. Flowering: late winter to spring.
