Forest, heath, and occasionally on rocky sites. Coast, ranges, and tablelands.
Shrub to 3 m high. Fruit fleshy. Branches almost cylindrical to angular, longitudinally ridged, covered with minute warts. Leaves narrow to triangular, 0.1–0.2 cm long, lost early. Flowers red to brown, yellowish brown, or greenish, with 4-5 hooded 'petals', each 0.6–0.7 mm long. Flowers in elongated clusters of 12–30 flowers. Flowers Summer-Autumn. Fruit greenish, yellowish-green, or greenish-brown, to purple, 6–8 mm long, oval to round, acidic, edible.
