Forest, woodland, heath, and shrubland. Ranges south from the Braidwood district. Coastal south of Eden.
Shrub to 1 m high. Branchlets rough to bristly. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.3–1.34 cm long, 0.9–2.7 mm wide, hairless, upper surface convex or flat, margins usually curved down and usually coarsely fringed to rough or toothed towards the tips, sometimes entire, tips pointed. Flowers white, buds often pink-tipped, tubular, the tube 0.8–2.4 mm long, with 5 lobes each 1.3–2.5 mm long, hairy to sparsely hairy. Flowers erect, usually 5–29 together in spikes 5–13 mm long. Flowering: most of the year. Fruit oblong to oval, 2.4–2.5 mm long, ridged.
