Dry forest. Coast, ranges, and tablelands, north of Nowra.
Perennial herb forming tussocks to 20 cm diameter. Leaves basal, 5–30 cm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, hairless, concavo-convex in cross section, margins rolled upwards, bases purplish above the whitish, lacerated leaf sheath margins. Male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers with 6 yellow 'petals'. Male flowers globular, about 2 mm long; outer 'petals' broad-elliptic to more or less round, shorter and more membranous than the thick inner 'petals'. Female flowers more tubular, about 3 mm long. Inflorescence with the flowers well-spaced. Male inflorescence about 10–15 cm long, unbranched or with a few short branches. Female inflorescence about 5 cm long, unbranched. Flowering: spring and autumn.
