Dry forest in rocky situations. Coast and ranges, rarely on the tablelands.
Perennial herb forming sparse tussocks. Leaves basal, usually about 40 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, channelled to flattened cylindrical, hairless, tips pointed, Margins of the basal leaf sheaths lacerated, dark purplish brown. Male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers with 6 yellow 'petals', usually 2.5–3 mm long, to 4 mm in diameter, the outer 'petals' thinner and shorter than the fleshy inner 'petals'. Inflorescence with several branches, flowers separate and well-spaced. Male inflorescence often nearly as long as the leaves. Female inflorescence smaller. Flowering: spring.
