Usually grows near creeks and waterfalls. Ranges north of Bargo, occasionally in the Sydney area. One sighting near Boorowa, another south east of Bombala.
Tufted perennial herb. Flower stems flattened. Leaves basal, flat, rather thin, usually 35–70 cm long, 2–4 mm wide; tips toothed, central tooth often much exceeding the lateral teeth. Margins of the basal leaf sheaths lacerated, brown. Male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers with 6 'petals', male flowers 3–3.5 mm long, females about 4.5 mm long. Male and female inflorescences much shorter than the leaves, unbranched, axis of the inflorescence below the flowers much longer than the inflorescence. Flower clusters whorled. Bracts below the flower clusters conspicuous, pointed, rather soft, whitish.
