Woodland, wet and dry heath, grassy areas, moist areas, along streams, and coastal headlands. Coast, ranges, and the eastern tablelands.
Shrub to 6 m tall. Bark corky to somewhat papery. Branchlets initially hairy with short hairs, soon becoming hairless. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, opposite or almost opposite each other, 1-4 cm long, 4-10 mm wide, tips blunt to pointed, surfaces hairless. Flower spikes orange to red, many-flowered, 30-50 mm long, about 60 mm wide. Individual flowers with 5 petals each about 5 mm long. Stamens much longer. Flowers Spring to Autumn.
Native in NSW, naturalised in Vic.
