A variety of habitats, especially in dry forest and coastal heath. Coast and ranges north of Wollongong. Occasionally elsewhere.
Shrub usually to 4 m high. Leaves with sharp tips. Bark corky to papery. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, mostly 1–4 cm long, 1–3 mm wide, rigid, very variable, cylindrical, linear or oblong, surfacees hairless. Flowers in dense heads. Individual flowers in clusters of 1-3, white to yellow, with 5 petals each 1–1.5 mm long. Stamens much longer than petals. Flowers spring–summer.
