Shrub or small tree to 5 m high. Bark papery. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, alternating up the stems, 0.4–1.5 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, tips pointed, surfacees hairless. Flowers in few- to many-flowered spikes 10–40 mm long. Individual flowers with 5 white petals, or petals sometimes tinged with pink, each 2–3 mm long. Stamens much longer than the petals. Flowers summer.
