Woody climber with twining stems, sometimes tall. Fruit fleshy. Branchlets hairless or sparsely hairy. Leaves opposite each other or in whorls of three, 3–16 cm long, 10–35 mm wide, tips bluntly pointed or pointed, margins sometimes wavy, surfaces hairless. Flowers orange-yellow to white, tubular, with 5 lobes 2–3 mm long, in clusters of mostly 5–13. Fruit orange to red. Flowering: summer–autumn.
