Perennial herb, sometimes flowering in the first year, to 0.3 m high, usually much-branched. Stems coarsely and densely hairy with spreading hairs, or rough. Leaves opposite each other, sometimes in a basal rosette, 0.2–1.5 cm long, 1–6 mm wide, tips pointed; margins curved down; surfaces sparsely to densely hairy. Flowers white, sometimes yellowish in the throat, 6–8.5 mm long, tubular, with 4 lobes 2.5–4 mm long. Flowers in clusters of 3–6 flowers, appearing single. Flowering: spring–autumn.
