Weed of moist sites in woodland, pastures, and gardens. Widespread. Rarely coast and ranges.
Introduced annual herb to 0.12 m high. Stems hairless, often glaucous. Basal leaves soon withering. Stem leaves few, opposite each other, 0.5–1.5 cm long, 0.7–2.5 mm wide, tips pointed. Flowers white, about 8 mm in diameter, with 4 petals. Flowers in 1–3-flowered clusters. Flowering: winter-spring.
