Wet heath and other moist sandy places. Coast and ranges north from Deua National Park.
Shrub to 0.3 m high or sprawling, with a thick woody base and numerous, thin, wiry, erect, stems. Stems hairless. Leaves opposite each other or whorled, 0.8–1.8 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, varying in shape, margins entire or sometimes toothed, tips more or less pointed, stalkless or with short stalks. Male and female flowers on the same plant. Flowers white, minute, with 4-5 petals and 4-5 sepals, the petals much shorter than the sepals. Male flowers smaller than the female flowers. Flowers in dense clusters of about 12 male flowers surrounding a single, more or less stalkless, female flower. Flowering: spring to summer.
