Forest. Coast and ranges mainly between Wollongong and south-east of Bombala. Rarely in the Blue Mountains.
Shrub to 4 m high. Branches hairless, sparsely to densely warty. Leaves alternating up the stems, 4.5–15 cm long, 3–16 mm wide, surfaces different colours on each side, hairless, warty, margins finely toothed, tips pointed. Flowers sweet-smelling, white, bright pink, or pale purplish pink, unspotted, 4–6 mm in diameter, with a bell-shaped tube and 5 lobes. Sepals lacking obvious translucent membranous margins. Flowers in clusters of 3–10. Fruit dry when ripe. Flowering: spring–summer.
