Moist, shaded, often disturbed, sites. Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, tablelands, and ACT. Rarely elsewhere.
Introduced biennial or perennial herb to 0.4 m high. Stems with dense spreading hairs. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, moderately hairy with spreading hairs, tips usually blunt, margins flat. Basal rosette leaves 2–10 cm long, 8–30 mm wide, stalked. Stem leaves to 5.5 cm long, stalkless. Flowers bright blue with a yellow throat, 5–6 mm long, 6–10 mm in diameter, tubular, with 5 lobes. Stamens hidden inside the corolla tube. Calyx covered with hooked hairs. Flowers in clusters on one side of the coiled stalk when young, the stalk soon elongating. Flowers mostly Sep.–Mar.
