Along boggy stream margins, around waterholes and in wet depressions. Sometimes aquatic. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, and tablelands and ranges east of the ACT.
Perennial herb, more or less prostrate, rooting at the nodes. Stems about 1 mm in diameter. Leaves opposite each other, mostly 0.25-0.7 cm long, linear, with a terminal gland, margins entire. Male and female flowers on the same stem or on different stems on the same plant. Male flowers with 4 red hooded petals 1.5–2 mm long. Female flowers with 0 sepals, 0 petals, stigmas white. Flowers single at the base of opposite leaves.
Definite identification of species of Myriophyllum often requires microscopic examination of the seed cases, beyond the scope of this key.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
