Erect to spreading annual or biennial herb. Leaves, and the bracts below the flowers and seed cases, with sharp tips. Stems more or less slightly hairy. Leaves opposite each other, 2–7.5 cm long, 15–20 mm wide, tips pointed with a sharp mucro. Flowers with 4 'petals', the outermost 5–10 mm long, the others smaller. 4 stamens. Flowers in small clusters.
