Alpine herbfields and very low shrubland in alpine feldmark, mainly in rocky areas. Kosciuszko National Park.
Perennial herb to 0.40 m high. Leaf stalks hairy. Base of the plant covered with the remains of old leaf sheaths. Leaves compound, woolly; basal sheaths woolly, tips pointed. Basal leaves 1.5–8 cm long, 7–40 mm wide, with 7–17 dissected leaflets each 0.3–2.5 cm long. Stem leaves alternating up the stems, smaller. Flowers white or pink with a darker midvein, to deep magenta, with 5 petals each about 1-1.2 mm long, hairy on the outside, in 10–15-flowered clusters. 'Seeds' dark red-brown to black. Flowering: summer.
