Forest, heath, and stream banks. Coast, ranges, and tablelands. Occasional elsewhere.
Shrub to 5 m high. Bark fibrous, longitudinally furrowed. Branches densely whitish with short rough hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.6–2 cm long, 1–3 mm wide, tips bent sharply down, margins tightly rolled down, upper surface green and rough, lower surface white- or fawnish-woolly. Flower heads globular, bell-shaped or oval, 2–3 mm long, 2–3 mm in diameter, with 20–22 florets. Bracts round the flower heads opaque, white or pink. Flower heads numerous, in dense clusters at the tops of the stems. Flowering: late winter to spring.
