Grassy areas, roadsides, and disturbed sites. Mostly in the Sydney area. Occasional elsewhere.
Introduced shrub to 2 m tall. Stems stellate hairy (needs a hand lens or a macro app on your phone/tablet to see). Leaves alternating up the stems, 1-6 cm long, mostly 10-25 mm wide, margins scalloped, surfaces rough above, whitish or greyish tomentose below, bases cordate, or with two pointed basal lobes spreading more or less at right angles to the leaf stalk. Petals on open flowers 12-25 mm long, reddish purple to pink or mauve or white, with a dark red base. Flowers often self-pollinate without opening.
