Forest and rocky areas. Coast, ranges, and the eastern edge of the tablelands, south from Wadbilliga National Park.
Shrub to about 1.8 m high. Fruit fleshy. Bark smooth. Young branchlets moderately hairy with greyish hairs. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1–2.5 cm long, 3–12 mm wide, flat, with slightly curved down margins, surfaces different colours, surfaces sparsely hairy when young, becoming hairless when mature. Flowers with 4 yellow 'petals' each 5–12 mm long, more or less fused at the base, hairless to sparsely hairy. Flowers erect to curved down, mostly subtended by leaves, in 1–10-flowered clusters. Flowers Dec.–Mar. Fruit oval, to about 12 mm long, about 9 mm wide.
