Forest, woodland, heath, and grassland, often on damp ground. Alpine and subalpine. Western edge of the ACT, the mountains west of the ACT, and Kosciuszko National Park.
Prostrate mat-forming shrub. Stems hairy when young. Leaves opposite each other, 0.2–1 cm long, 1–5 mm wide, upper surface mid-green and hairless, lower surface paler, lower surface and margins covered with short appressed hairs. Flowers usually bisexual, rarely female, dark red near the tips, paler below. Flowers tubular, the tube 4–7 mm long, with 4 spreading lobes each 0.8–2 mm long Flowers 2 together, subtended by 2 leaflike bracts, each 0.6–0.9 cm long, at the tops of the stems. Flowers Nov.–Jan.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
