Dry forest, woodland, shrubland, grassy areas, and near streams. Kosciuszko National Park, the mountains to the north, ACT, and tablelands east and south of the ACT.
Shrub to 3 m high. Fruit fleshy. Bark shiny and reddish brown. Stems hairless. Leaves opposite each other, 0.4–2.5 cm long, 1–4 mm wide, hairless, both surfaces the same colour, medium green. Male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers green to yellow, 2–5 mm long, tubular, with 4 spreading lobes each 1-2 mm long. Flowers in heads of 3–9 flowers, subtended by 2 or 4 leaf-like bracts 0.3–1.1 cm long, 2–5 mm wide, persistent at the seeding stage. Flowers Spring-Summer. Fruit red, about 4 mm long.
All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
