Prostrate to sprawling shrub, branches to 0.6m long. Young stems hairy. Leaves usually opposite each other, 1-7 cm long, 5-25 mm wide, tips pointed, blunt or notched, margins more or less finely scalloped, upper surface reticulate and shining, lower surface with a few scattered hairs, stipules bristly, 2–3 mm long. Flowers about 10 mm long, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel, yellow to orange often with reddish brown markings. Flowers in clusters. Flowers Spring.
