Where found

In permanent water bodies and in fast-flowing shallow water. Reasonably salt-tolerant. Ranges west and north of Sydney. Between Nowra and Goulburn. ACT and ranges and tablelands to the east of the ACT. Occasionally elsewhere.

Notes

Rhizomatous aquatic perennial herb. Stems trailing, to 3 m long, cylindrical. Leaves alternating along the stems, submerged, 1-7 cm long 10-40 mm wide, thin and translucent, bases cordate and stem-clasping, stipules more or less sheathing the bases, margins entire, usually wavy, tips blunt, rarely pointed. Flowers 3–4 mm in diameter, with 4 'petals'. Flowers in a dense 8–15-flowered emergent spike, 10-20 mm long when in seed. Flowering: most of the year.

All native plants on unleased land in the ACT are protected.
