Woodland and shrubland. Sydney area and north and Blue Mtns. Western Slopes. Occasionally elsewhere.
Shrub to 1 m high. Branches densely covered with short, straight and/or curled hairs and more or less stalkless glands. The whole plant aromatic. Leaves opposite each other, 0.25–1 cm long, 0.5–1.5 mm wide, surfaces mid-green, often with a maroon tinge, margins entire and curved down, tips blunt. Flowers pink- to purple-mauve, with dark red, maroon or purple dots in the throat. Flowers 8–10 mm long, with a bell-shaped tube, 2-lipped, 5-lobed. Calyx 2-lobed. Flowers single at the base of paired leaves, forming leafy clusters. Flowering: spring.
