Wet and dry forest, woodland, and shrubland, often near streams. Coast and ranges. Rarely elsewhere.
Shrub to 3.5 m tall. Stems sparsely to moderately hairy. Leaves with sharp tips, alternating up the stems or opposite each other, 1-2 cm long, 1-2.5 mm wide, flat to concave in cross section, margins flat to curved upwards, upper surface hairless, paler than the lower surface, lower surface with scattered appressed hairs. Flowers 7-10 mm long, pea shaped, with 5 petals, 2 joined together to form the keel. Standard petal and wings yellow to orange, keel yellow. Bracteoles linear, inserted at the base of the calyx tube. Flowers in leafy clusters. Flowers Winter to Summer. Pods sparsely hairy, smooth.
