Pyracantha crenulata
Firethorn, Himalayan firethorn
Rosaceae
Shrubland, roadsides, and along streams. Mainly Sydney area and Canberra. Occasional elsewhere.
Introduced shrub or small tree to about 3 m high. Short side branches end in spines. Fruit fleshy. Young stems rusty-hairy, becoming hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, usually 3–6 cm long, 6–15 mm wide, margins evenly and sharply toothed for most of their length; both surfaces hairless, tips pointed or blunt, and mucronate. Flowers white, with 5 petals. Ripe fruit 4–8 mm in diameter, dark red to crimson. Flowers spring–summer.
Family was Malaceae.
