Weed of disturbed sites. Sydney area and north. Rarely elsewhere.
Introduced annual herb to 0.4 m high or prostrate. Stems bristly. Leaves opposite each other, 0.5–5 cm long, 3–28 mm wide, tips pointed, surfaces more or less bristly. Flowers white, tubular, the tube 3–8 mm long, with mostly 6 lobes. Calyx 6-lobed, the lobes spreading. Flowers usually 20 or more in a head, subtended by 2 or 4, mostly broad, leafy bracts. 'Seeds' 3 per seed case, 2.5–3 mm long, warty. Flowering: spring–autumn.
