Forest and heath. Coastal. Ranges mainly north from Kangaroo Valley.
Shrub to 3 m high. Stems more or less hairless. Leaves alternating up the stems, mostly 1–4 cm long, mostly 1–3 mm wide, upper surface hairless, lower surface hairy but usually obscured by the curved to rolled down margins, tips blunt or mucronate. Male and female flowers on the same plant. Flowers usually white, with 4-6 petals each 10–15 mm long. Flower clusters usually consisting of 1 female flower with 3–6 male flowers with the female flowers usually flowering first, or all male flowers. Sepals hairless outside, hairy inside. Flowers mostly winter and spring.
