Rainforest. Coast and ranges north of Bermagui.
Tall woody climber, stems to 15 m long. Hooked prickles 1-1.8 mm long scattered on the stems, leaf stalks, the lower surface of the leaflets, flower stalks, and the bases of the sepals. Fruit fleshy. Orange papery bark. Young stems hairless except for sparsely hairy veins. Leaves alternating up the stems, usually 8-25 cm long, compound, with 5 (rarely 4 or 6) leaflets each 4–11.5 cm long, 10–55 mm wide, margins toothed, both surfaces hairless or almost so. Flowers appearing bisexual but functionally with male and female flowers on different plants. Flowers with 5 white petals, each 9-12 mm long. Flowers in sometimes paired clusters of up to 12 flowers. Fruit red, ripening to black, more or less oval to round, 10-12 mm in diameter.
