Moist areas in forest and woodland, and garden weed. Mainly Sydney area and north. Rarely elsewhere.
Introduced perennial herb. Stems 4-angled, hairless to slightly hairy, sometimes with a few stalkless glands. Leaves aromatic when rubbed, opposite each other, 2–2.6 cm long, 3–11 mm wide, bases often with pointed auricles, margins entire or shallowly wavy, lower surface hairless or with a few hairs and stalkless glands. Flowers white or pink to mauve with dark purple markings, about 5 mm long, 2-lipped with 5 lobes, the lower lip slightly longer than the upper lip. Calyx often tinged purple. Flowers single at the base of each of paired leaves. Flowering: mostly October–February
